There is much advertising which purports that teaching reading to young children is of the utmost importance. This is not true. Children need movement, music, creativity and exposure to children’s theater and social experiences. Proficiency in social skills was the theme of my child’s daycare/preschool. The director created the school as she wished it to be. In addition, I did not stress early reading, but proper language skills. I didn’t talk down to my child and allowed him exposure to people of other races as well as disabled children. When you get your placement or do your practical work, you will see how unfortunate it is that the children are pushed to succeed on tests. More creative type programs are cut, primarily for financially strapped urban areas. I have subbed in suburban schools that were amazing, full of computers, two story high libraries, fully stocked, science labs, every modern type of curriculum. Well, anyway, your research topic could be on Piaget, or Montessori, or creativity curriculum, or comparing and contrasting preschool children’s progress with home schooled by the third grade, or the value of multi cultural literature. The topics are endless. Just be sure and select one for which there are many journal articles. It will make it easier.
