openBVE – Class 323 3D Cab, Interior, and Watford Junction to Rugby
Please click the “HD” button below the video for the *best* quality, or add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL in your address bar and hit Enter, for the high quality version. I recommend viewing full screen, due to some night time shots featured.
In this video, you’ll see a demonstration of the new 3D cab functionality now available in the development branch of the licence-free openBVE simulator (but please note that the development branch is intended for developers primarily). The new 323 interior details can also be seen demonstrated in openBVE v1.0.7.2 (the stable branch intended for the general public), along with some high resolution video of the Watford Junction to Rugby route with actual sounds rather than music this time.
New animated features in the 3D cab currently include working reverser, combined traction/brake controller and horn lever, speedometer and brake gauges, working safety system indicators, cab lighting, and experimental headlight effects.
* Please read my associated blog entry for a caveat regarding the headlight idea… http://railsimroutes.net/blog/?p=885
The 323 interior features seats, working TV screens, animated window raindrop effects, working carriage lighting, and ground illumination from both the windows and pantograph sparking, visible in the dark.
The exterior view now includes inmproved door closing animation, and the Cross-City South route also includes new 3D trees, bushes and hedges, as well as on-train conductor’s announcements and alternative Birmingham New Street station announcements, which will be released into the public domain along with Cross-City South v1.4, thanks to voice recording artist Pete Kingwell: http://www.petekingwell.com
The Watford Junction to Rugby route now runs at quite usable framerates thanks to the performance improvements introduced with openBVE v1.0.7, and this route is demonstrated here in high resolution. You’ll also see the enhanced signal lighting effects now in use on the route.
