Churchill on Islam : the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010 and filed under social development | 8 Comments »

The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.
(Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 [London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899]).)

Comments from people who have LIVED or are LIVING in Islamic countries only please.

I agree with him – and l’ve been living in Islamic countries since 2001.
It takes ages for the simplest thing to get done and it’s usually sloppy.
The people are mostly lazy and appear outwardly sluggish just by the way they walk!

How did constitutional and social development in the US between 1860 and 1877 amount to a revolution?

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2010 and filed under social development | 1 Comment »

In what ways and to what extent did constitutional and social development in the US between 1860 and 1877 amount to a revolution?
I need a lot of info-specidfic events and people- so I can write a 5 paragraph essay
Thanks

First of all, the period from 1860 to 1877 was the time of the Civil War (1861-1865) and Reconstruction (1865-1877). It saw the destruction of the slave-labor based society of the South.

Also, following the war, the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the Constitution were adopted, which transferred significant power from the states to the federal government, and particularly to the federal judiciary, which acquired much greater ability to rule state laws unconstitutional.

In many respects, the Civil War and Reconstruction were the second Constitutional Convention, except that it was fought on the battlefield.

Have you ever read the book Flat Stanley? If you haven’t it is about a boy who is flat and is able to be sent any where! I did this when i was little by making a flat stanley and sending it to another school. Then they sent it back with one of their flat Stanley’s of themselves. Along with the sending of the flat Stanley’s the kids send pictures that they drew for the other to keep with sentences that they could have wrote.
Hope you like this idea and i hope it works out.

How is social development positively influenced by this activity?

Infants feel different textures like construction paper, plastic, and fabric

It expands the world of the newborn with the experience of touching different textures. The baby will be more accepting of different textures once they have initially experienced them. You could make the case that it may help them socially so that they won’t balk at being held by people wearing different textures. They will be more accepting of different materials.

Are you writing a lesson plan?
